England national team striker and long-time Brentford mainstay Ivan Toney has a problem. He has been suspended from all football activities for 8 monthsfor breaking betting rules . In addition, he will pay a fine of 50 thousand pounds.

The English Football Association issued an official statement today, tying the British forward. Toney is banned from taking part in any football-related activities for 8 months. His suspension is valid until 16 January 2024.

He was further warned very forcefully by the association about his future actions. The Brentford FC striker is accused of 262 breaches of FA betting rules between 25 February 2017 and 23 January 2021.

The FA eventually dropped 30 of those charges, with the striker pleading guilty to a subsequent 232 cases. Following a personal interview, the said sanctions were handed down by the FA’s Independent Regulatory Commission.

Toney is only allowed to return to training with the club, 4 months before his sanction expires. Specifically, from 23 September 2023.

The reasons for the aforementioned punishments imposed by the Regulatory Commission are not yet written in black and white. They will be published in due course.

For the time being, the FA is waiting to take further steps in the proceedings. Brentford’s management is waiting as well, which will certainly not be punished by Toney’s striker.

The player has already been linked to football gambling once, in November last year. He then wrote a confession on Twitter saying he was cooperating with government authorities in their investigation. However, nothing surfaced at the time.

According to FA rules, all Premier League, Football League, National League and Women’s Super League (the top women’s league competition) players are banned from betting on any football match or competition worldwide. Both directly and through an intermediary.
