D-Day is here! The final of the European Championship is being played tonight and we will see a duel of Spain playing great football against England, who have not entertained with their football so far.
The Spanish reached the final thanks to victories in the group, beating Croatia, Italy and Albania in succession. They then beat Georgia, Germany and France.
It was England who struggled, beating only Serbia in the group. They then drew with Denmark and Slovenia, but it was enough to qualify. In the knockout stages, they beat Slovakia in extra time, Switzerland on penalties and finally the Netherlands.
Coach Southgate on the match
“We had our problems at the beginning, but the team showed character and great resilience. Our game is improving and we played a great game against the Netherlands.
We have to do the same in the final. We know very well what winning the title would mean for all the people in the country. Everything has to fit together, it’s not just about going to play a football match.
It’sgoing to be evenly matched, the details will decide,” England coach Southgate, who has been criticised by the public quite a lot throughout the tournament, said at a pre-match press conference.
“The Spanish know what they want to play. They press very well, like all Spanish teams they are strong on the ball. We have to be well organised,” he added.
