Sunday’s program was again slightly affected by rain in Flushing Meadows. The fairy tale of Dutchman Van De Zandschlup continues after his victory over Diego Schwartzman. The number two seed in the men’s tournament, Daniil Medvedev, is also moving on.

In the men’s bracket, three-quarters of the time the favourites have advanced. As it was already written, Van De Zandschlup did well, although he lost the lead 2:0 to the Argentinian Schwartzman, but in the fifth set he already coped with the world number 14 and won 3:2 in sets. Daniil Medvedev awaits him in the quarterfinals and it will be very difficult to win.

The second quarter-final of the lower part of the pavilion will cater for Carlos Alcaraz and Felix Auger-Aliassime. The young Spaniard also had to play a five-set match. The German Gojowczyk was even leading 2: 1 on sets, but then he dropped out physically.

The next two sets were already very fast and while Auger-Aliassime was already happy after four sets, his quarter-final opponent had to sweat a lot.

In the women’s section, Czech eyes were mainly on Barbora Krejcikova, who was up against the ninth seed, Spain’s Muguruza. The world number nine from the Czech Republic was already leading 6: 3 and 4: 0, but then came health complications that slowed Krejcikova down a lot.

In the end, the Czech number two won the tiebreak. Despite having to listen to rumours that she was unprofessional, Krejcikova can look forward to a last-eight match with Aryna Sabalenka.

The Brno native will definitely not be the favourite this time, so she can only surprise. The second quarter-final will offer a duel between the experienced Elina Svitolina and the young Leyla Annie Fernandez, who after Naomi Osaka also knocked out Angelique Kerber.

The Canadian defeated the three-time Grand Slam champion 4:6, 7:6(5) and 6:2 in a nerve-wracking battle and can look forward to the next round at the US Open.

Today we will see a match between Karolina Pliskova and Novak Djokovic. Alexander Zverev, for example, who is considered a hot candidate for the title from New York, will also play.
