Emerson Royal under heavy criticism from Tottenham fans. Barcelona’s just washing their hands

He didn’t spend much time in Barcelona. After two years at Betis, Emerson Royal went to Camp Nou as agreed, but then Tottenham immediately reached for him. They didn’t hesitate to pay 30 million euros for his services. The Catalan big club did not argue for a long time and agreed to this proposal. Now it seems that it was a hit and miss.
Financially, the whole operation has not raised any doubts on the part of the Catalans. Moreover, Barcelona were unsure whether Emerson was ready to play in their colours. In the beginning, he was only behind Dest and even Sergi Roberto in the hierarchy.
We were to know the answer to this question after some time. That didn’t happen as the right-back left in a flash for the Premier League.
Spurs fans watched his performances closely at the start of the season and it seemed that he wouldn’t need much time to adapt, as he is a strong and mature player. Shortly after he arrived in London, he started playing in the starting eleven. However, Emerson lost his position and importance after the arrival of Antonio Conte.
His form also dropped significantly. In addition, he recently made a big mistake that preceded a Middlesbrough goal, which led to his team’s elimination from the FA Cup. Fans are understandably upset as their club has missed one of the few chances to win a trophy this season.
Either way, fans describe Emerson’s performance as an “absolute tragedy”. There are even reports of “the worst footballer they have ever seen in their team”. On the other hand, they ironically praise Barcelona’s management for “robbing” Tottenham of 30 million euros. That’s exactly the amount he spent in the British Isles.
Of course, these are exaggerated reactions, but it is true that the player is not doing very well on the pitch and the English team is rather paying for this transfer. In the meantime, however, they still don’t have an extra-class right-back at Camp Nou.
Although Dani Alves has come in temporarily to help and Sergiño Dest is getting into more form match by match. Negative opinions about Emerson’s character are really exaggerated, as he has shown during his time at Betis that he can play football at a high level.
However, long before he headed to Barcelona there were reports that he would be given a chance at right-back by Dest or Minguez. Which meant a stop sign for the Brazilian midfielder beforehand.
The truth is that Emerson excelled with his play at Betis. However, it has to be admitted that during his time there he had more freedom on the pitch, where he was comfortable with a 3-5-2 formation and besides, he didn’t have to be heavily involved in defensive duties.
Nor has he ever been the type of player who can carry out the coach’s instructions without any match rhythm, or when he takes the field from the bench to the bench.
That’s why Barcelona can now wash their hands of him because they have the aforementioned €30 million in their pocket. Dest has recovered from his injury and it appears that he is starting to understand Xavi’s tactical instructions very well and the presence of Dani Alves is also benefiting him.
In comparison, the likes of Mingueza is reminiscent of Nacho, who has been underrated his entire career, but when he came on the pitch he was able to show some class.
Such a footballer can be a Barcelona offspring and history shows that such players are extremely valuable. Moreover, in his case, given his young age, further development of his football skills cannot be ruled out.
Emerson simply has to bite the bullet and fight for his position at Tottenham. He is, after all, a representative of the Brazilian national team and he is still only and only twenty-three years old. His entire future may still lie ahead of him in the Premier League…
