Billionaire Elon Musk has once again drawn attention to himself with a post on Twitter. Manchester United fans thought their prayers had finally been answered. Musk informed his Twitter followers about the purchase of Manchester United. But a few hours later, he announced that it was just a joke.
With Elon Musk’s history of erratic purchases behind him, Red Devils fans took a while to rejoice at the prospect of a new owner.
The American Glazer family bought the club for $955.51 million. United fans have had a problem with the Glazers since the Americans bought the club, and the situation has only gotten worse since then.
United are currently at the bottom of the English Premier League and according to most fans, it is the fault of their owners in the first place.
The club’s supporters are now planning a boycott of the club’s next match at Old Trafford against big rivals Liverpool. The hashtag #EmptyOldTrafford is gaining momentum on social media.
Of course, we can never know if Musk is joking or not, and perhaps this outrageous tweet was more of a way to distract from his previous tweet.
Musk previously tweeted.
“Otherwise I’m buying Manchester United, you’re welcome,” Musk wrote in a post on the social network.
Unfortunately for everyone, the billionaire later revealed that it was all an elaborate prank.
In the past, he has also talked about buying Coca Cola. Just so he could “put the cocaine back in”. The Tesla and Space X owner’s fortune is estimated at $265 billion.
