Edmonton stumbled again on their own ice! Oilers can’t keep up with Minnesota this time
Edmonton fell for the second time on their ice. This is despite the fact that Leon Draisaitl woke up the scorers and team captain Connor McDavid recorded two assists. It wasn’t enough for the well-playing Minnesota and the Oilers fell 2:4 at home.
Edmonton fell for the second time on their ice. This is despite the fact that Leon Draisaitl woke up the scorers and team captain Connor McDavid recorded two assists. It wasn’t enough for a very good Minnesota team and the Oilers fell 2:4 at home.
Minnesota struck at the end of the first period
Stuart Skinner was not in goal for the home team this time. Calvin Pickard appeared in Edmonton’s goal after a week. Fillip Gustavsson started in goal for Minnesota, and the teams didn’t really test both goalies in the first period.
In terms of shot attempts, the away team was more successful at 7:6. And they were also the first to score at the end of the first period. Pickard was beaten for the first time in the game by Wild forward Matthew Boldy, who scored his 22nd goal of the season.
Edmonton’s players came out flying in the second period and were much more active shooting (14:7). Minnesota had two power plays at the beginning of the second period, but did not capitalize on them. On the other side, however, the Oilers punished the visitors’ exclusion, with Joel Eriksson Ek going to the penalty box.
And after just 17 seconds, Leon Drasaitl took advantage of a power play. It was the German sniper’s 22nd goal and 70th point this season. He surpassed that mark for the 8th consecutive season.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Connor McDavid also scored points for assists. The score was 1-1. Edmonton created a lot of pressure, but the score didn’t change until the end of the period.
They decided the game in the 3rd period
In the tenth minute of the third period, defenseman Jonas Brodin put the visiting team back in front after a pass from Kapriz. He scored his fifth goal of the season. Moments later, Boldy increased the Wild’s lead to two goals with his second goal of the game.
Zach Hyman provided a glimmer of hope for the home team. The decisive goal was scored by Minnesota forward Mats Zuccarello, who hit the empty net. The Wild take a very valuable win from the rink of Edmonton and are still within two points of a playoff position.
