Man of the Match Recap. City – Newcastle
The first half showed a lot of interesting moments. However, the entertainment was mainly provided by goalkeeper Ederson Moraes, who as he is known to help a lot in his team’s midfield.
Today, however, it was something specific, because the Brazilian waited for the Magpies pressing and when he saw that he could afford it, he tapped the ball to Kyle Walker.
The whole stadium couldn’t believe their eyes, but it’s not uncharacteristic of him. In the first half, he helped himself at least three times with his courageous passing and confirms the words of Guardiola, who said that he has no nerves.
Joško Gvardiol opened the scoring in the 35th minute after a beautiful combination with Jack Grealish. He passed the ball into the box to Guardiola, who hooked it beautifully and sent it to the back post.
It looked like nothing was going to happen on the pitch, but in the last set minute of the first half Newcastle had an interesting standard. From which Joelington got his chance and finished dangerously at City’s goal. But Ederson made a good save.
In the second half, Newcastle wanted to get into the game and that’s exactly what they did. In the 56th minute, Anthony Gordon escaped the visitors’ defence, he side-footed the ball while tackling Ederson and the aforementioned Brazilian sent him to the ground. Referee Jarred Gillett uncompromisingly awarded a penalty, which Gordon converted with ease to put the home side back in the game.
Newcastle were a completely new team after the goal was scored. He was everywhere early, one centre after another, shot after shot, and City weren’t letting anything happen. The penalty revived the whole thing for the home side and improved the performance.
The visiting Spanish coach made a few changes and tried to win the game. Phil Foden, Jeremy Doku or Savinho were sent on. Despite great chances on both sides, they failed to score another goal and it is another loss of points for the champion.
