Manel Kape won the fight for the UFC’s top ten flyweight title, beating Czech fighter David Dvorak on points. The latter endured a painful leverage at the end of the first round, which then limited him for the rest of the fight.
Kape put a kimura on Dvorak, and he held on in pain for a really long time, although fans were worried that his arm simply wouldn’t hold up. Eventually, it held and Dvorak was even able to continue the fight, but it was certain that he would not be okay.
This was also confirmed when he claimed after a week that his arm was not working and he basically couldn’t feel it from the elbow down. He has now had several tests and more are still to come. How is he at the moment?
“Paradoxically, the strap I had my arm in probably hurt me the most. I felt that I had flaccid muscles, I also had damaged nerves there. A few days ago I tried one attempt, I put a double crown on the table, I wanted to take it with my hand, but I couldn’t.
I didn’t pick up the double crown, it was very strange. But when I moved it an inch, it worked. I got the position that the muscle doesn’t grab, like it wasn’t there. But my arm is getting better, I have more range,” he said in a lengthy interview with Kaocko.cz.
He didn’t have to have surgery and all indications are that he won’t have to. Anyway, he has to take a break, he won’t wrestle for a few months. Nor will he have any regular training sessions now.
“The doctors told me no combat sports for six weeks, which means until mid-February. Then I’ll do two weeks of light conditioning and testing my body. Theoretically, three and a half months should be enough for the fight. I still believe the fight will be in June, July,” he added.
So we will have to wait a while for the Czech fighter to fight in the UFC, as Jiri Prochazka is also injured. But we can be happy with women, we have Lucie Pudilova and Tereza Bleda in the UFC.
