Matheus Nicolau, the man who links David Dvorak and Manel Kape. Both lost to the Brazilian fighter on points, but now they are fighting for a spot in the UFC’s top ten flyweight division.
While Dvorak went into the fight as a welterweight, Kape was a welterweight before his bout with the Czech fighter. However, despite the rankings, it was the man who goes by the nickname Starboy who went into the fight as the favorite.
Kape had won 16 of his 17 wins before the limit, so it was obvious that he was no easy opponent. Moreover, he was the former champion of Rizin. And the East Bohemian patriot was aware of all this.
The first round was cautious from both sides at the beginning. Dvorak was moving a lot, you could tell he respected his opponent. He tried to at least land kicks, was more active in the first five minutes, even delivered a takedown.
But it was the first round, or rather the end of it, that seemed to decide the course of the rest of the match. Kape caught Dvorak and put him in a kimura. The Czech fighter had a lot of work to do to make it to the end of the round.
Dvorak had to be checked by a doctor before he could go into the second round. There was no ban, but it was clear that Dvorak’s left hand was not in good condition. He didn’t use it much, he kept it down, which Kape noticed and tried to take advantage of.
In the second round, the native of Angola clearly had the upper hand, with Dvorak surviving several critical moments. At the end of it, however, he almost got caught in a choke when Kape tried to elbow him out of a spin.
The Czech went into the third round with a clear goal of finishing his opponent. He was active, tried to hit Kape, and succeeded a couple of times, but couldn’t finish him. Unfortunately, he scored his second loss on points and will probably drop out of the top ten of the rankings.
However, Kape admitted after the fight that Dvorak was a much better opponent than he expected.
