Dutch hero Weghorst: This is how I dreamt it! I told my girlfriend this morning that I’d decide on a draw

The Netherlands scored a valuable win over Poland in their opening EURA match. Wout Weghorst scored shortly after his arrival on the pitch and became his country’s hero once again. He admitted in an interview afterwards that he had predicted the outcome of the match.

The EURO is in full swing and the opening round matches are slowly coming to an end. The Netherlands have also had their first match, having managed the obligatory three points against Poland, although they struggled in the match.

Indeed, Poland took the lead in the 16th minute through twenty-seven-year-old striker Adam Buksa, but less than a quarter of an hour later Cody Gakpo responded. The game was then coming to a close, but Wout Weghorst made the final decision.

The hero of the last championship showed once again that he is an excellent footballer and joker. He scored in the 83rd minute after two minutes and 18 seconds on the pitch.

He set a Dutch record for the most substitutes in European Championship history. And in his post-match interview, he admitted that he basically predicted the outcome of the match.

“That’s how I felt and imagined it when I told my girlfriend this morning that it would come 20 minutes before the end at 1:1.

It was just a little bit later. For me it was the perfect scenario,” Weghorst told Dutch TV NOS, adding that he would like to bring the trophy for the tournament winner back to his country.

But he will have to wait a while for that. The Netherlands will now face France and then have to confirm its role as favourite against Austria.
