On the night from Sunday to Monday, the next matches of the third edition of the ATP Cup, the team competition, will be played. Players from Chile and Serbia will face each other. Dusan Lajovic and Cristian Garin will be the team leaders. Who will win the all-important point?
Dusan Lajovic is a thirty-three-year-old tennis player originally from Serbia. He is currently ranked 31st in the ATP rankings. However, the Belgrade native’s career high is 23rd, where he was in April 2019.
Lajovic lost his opening encounter in the current edition of the ATP Cup. However, his opponent was Casper Ruud, the eighth player in the world rankings. The Serbian player certainly did not show a bad performance and lost after sets 3::6 and 5::7.
Cristian Garin is a 25-year-old player from Chile. He is currently ranked seventeenth in the ATP rankings, which is also his best ranking. Garin has dominated five tournaments so far, all of which have been played on clay.
However, the hard surface, which is also played in Sydney, is not one of his favourites. In 2021, he played just nine duels on it, seven of which he lost. On Saturday, he couldn’t even beat Bautista-Agut, to whom he lost 0::6 and 3::6.
So what to bet on? Given the circumstances, the paper favourite for Monday’s contest is Dusan Lajovic. He has also dominated the only match played on the hard surface so far, with a fairly clear 6: 2 and 6: 2 in just 54 minutes.
If Serbia manages to win, they would be much closer to qualifying from the group. It would then likely face Spain, which is missing Rafael Nadal, in Wednesday’s clash.
