The opening day of the main competition of the Grand Slam US Open brought only one Czech victory. Barbora Krejčíková defeated the Mexican Contreras in two sets, while Karolína Muchová, Sara Bejlek, Jiří Lehečka and Tomáš Macháč said goodbye to the tournament. Will Tuesday’s first round matches be more successful for our tennis?

Jiri Vesely will be the last of the three Czechs to enter the fray in the men’s singles. 68. the ATP ranked player will play against the top 20 seed Daniel Evans from Great Britain. Their clash is scheduled for 18:30.

Before that, other Czech tennis players will start their participation in this year’s US Open at 5 pm CET. Two of them will face each other in a mutual duel, the derby of their compatriots will be provided by Marie Bouzkova and successful qualifier Linda Noskova.

At the same time, another talented young Czech will face Wang Xin-yu of China, 17-year-old Linda Fruhvirtova. Next, Tereza Martincova will play Estonia’s Kaia Kanepi and Karolina Pliskova will play Poland’s Magda Linette.

Petra Kvitova, who lost to Caroline Garcia in the final in the dress rehearsal in Cincinnati, will enter the last of the “Big Four” tournaments at 7 pm. The two-time Wimbledon champion will take on Russia’s Erika Andreeva, who qualified for the main draw.

The match of Kateryna Siniakova, currently ranked 83rd in the singles rankings, should start at 22.30. She will play the home team’s Taylor Townsend, who is ranked 197th.

Among the other duels, let’s mention the beginning of the road to defence by last year’s winner Emma Raducanu, who will face Alizé Cornet in the first round. Apart from them, Rafael Nadal will be on court an hour after midnight to play Rinky Hijikata. Live coverage of selected matches will be broadcast on Eurosport 1 and 2.
