Champions League
“Duel” between Foden and Savich from two points of view. The Citizens talent is a laughing stock, but at the same time he gave the Colchoneros a taste of their own medicine
The end of the Atletico Madrid vs. Manchester City match was very tense. The standout moment was the behaviour of Stefan Savic, who in his emotions unsportingly pulled Phil Foden off the pitch. Why can his actions be understood and what are the counter arguments from the Citizens camp?

In the 89th minute, Foden escaped the home defence, only to be stopped by a slip by Brazilian Felipe, who headed the ball into the net. But he swung his legs over the line and hit the England midfielder’s legs unnecessarily.
Foden’s tackle clearly hurt, grabbing his affected achilles while he rolled back into the area. That annoyed Savich, who went to him and tried with all his might to get him back in the box. If it wasn’t for Oleksander Zinchenko defending Foden, who knows how that would have turned out.
The situation eventually resulted in three yellow cards. One was given to Felipe for an unsportsmanlike tackle out of bounds, and since he was already playing under a yellow, he went to the showers early, then Savic and visiting defender Nathan Aké were logically punished for their activity in the scrum.
A melee broke out on social media after the end of the game, with Citizens fans not understanding the aggression of the Atletico players, who went at Foden from the opening whistle. After all, it was because of Felipe’s hard tackle that Foden finished the first half with his head bandaged.
On the other hand, most impartial spectators understood Savic’s indignation. Foden ended up far out of the field after the tackle, but with the help of six “barrels” he got back on the pitch to delay the game a bit.
The Manchester City players did a lot of tinkering at the end of the game, and the home side were logically seething, but didn’t they get a little taste of the medicine Diego Simeone has been administering to his opponents in recent years?
Maybe they did. Either way, the Colchoneros confirmed once again this season that although they don’t play their best football, the Champions League is their competition and they don’t give anyone anything for free.
