Finnish goal scorer Teemu Pukki scored a great volley in Tuesday’s Premier League round of 14 match. His goal decided an important point for Norwich, while Newcastle lost their first league win of the season.
Norwich have struggled to start the season. It lost the first six rounds (also due to an extremely difficult draw) and only got its first win in the eleventh round. Poor performances cost the club’s coaching legend Daniel Farke his job.
He was replaced by the experienced Dean Smith, who had made a decent name for himself at Aston Villa. He has confirmed his qualities in his new engagement, since his arrival the Canaries have not lost, respectively defeated Southampton and drew with Wolverhampton.
Tuesday’s clash with Newcastle was a classic “six-point game”. Despite November’s unbeaten run, Norwich went into the game from eighteenth place, with the Magpies even last.
The rescue fight got a boost in the ninth minute, Cairan Clark was red-carded and Newcastle were faced with an 80-minute shorthanded period. However, it was the Magpies who took the lead.
In the 61st minute, the referee pointed to the spot after watching a replay and the penalty kick was converted by Callum Wilson.
As the minutes ticked by, the pressure from the visitors increased thanks to the superiority and in the 79th minute the reward came. After an error by Martin Dúbravka, another centre flew into the area and Teemu Pukki uncompromisingly cleared under the crossbar.
No more goals were scored and the teams tied 1-1.
