After Cristiano Ronaldo’s departure, Real Madrid has slightly backed off from European glory. But president Florentino Pérez is not going to let that go and plans to arm the Champions League kings. The target? Kylian Mbappé and Erling Haaland.

Almost no one in the football world doubts that Kylian Mbappé will be donning the white jersey of Real Madrid from the summer. The player himself expressed that playing for the White Ballet is his childhood day and he wanted to go to Spain already this summer, but PSG did not let him go.

His contract expires at the end of the season and Mbappé does not intend to extend it. So he will go to Madrid for free. He will be a great addition to the attack with Karim Benzema, with whom he gets on well with in the French national team, and the Brazilian starlet Vinícius.

But Real Madrid want even more. Because from the summer, another giant star will be on the market. Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund will be available for 75 million euros, that’s the buy-out clause. And frankly, although it is big money, for European big clubs it is literally a packet for such a player.

European giants such as PSG, Manchester City and Chelsea will try to compete for Haaland’s signature. And they have one huge advantage over Real Madrid. They are privately owned, from Russia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates. So they have unlimited resources in terms of transfers, they will try to attract Haaland with a huge amount of money.

Real Madrid, which is owned by its “socios,” i.e., partners or fans, can’t be that big. That’s why, according to Spanish newspaper Marca, it wants to lure Haaland with quality football rather than money.

What does every footballer want most in the world? Win titles, trophies, be the best player possible. And that’s what Los Blancos will try to get Haaland for, with the promise of an attacking lethal trio with Mbappé and Vinícius, who has caught amazing form this season. And then there’s the fantastic Karim Benzema…

This attack would really be awe-inspiring. And although the relationship between super-agent Mino Raiola and the Real Madrid management is not great, according to several sources, Haaland would be willing to turn down a bigger fee to move to the Santiago Bernabéu.

And indeed, money may not be the top priority for Haaland at the moment. He is still only 21 years old, has an impressive career ahead of him and several improved contracts.

Haaland’s father, who is very much involved in his son’s transfer, has spent a lot of time in Madrid over the last year, going through the training centre with the management and it seems like he would like to steer his son to the Spanish capital.

We will find out in the summer whether Real Madrid will actually succeed in creating one of the most expensive attacks in football history. However, to assemble a Mbappé-Haaland duo whose combined value exceeds 200 million euros, while spending just 75 million euros on him, would be a real masterstroke.
