Dream debut of another African from Slavia. Who is Ogungbayi?
Muhamed Tijani opened the scoring, but Slavia knew they wanted at least a two-goal lead going into the rematch with Zorja. The curse was broken by 19-year-old Boluwatife Victor Ogungbayi who found Lukas Masopust in front of an empty net with a superb assist. It was his debut.

When Jindřich Trpišovský pointed him out, many fans wondered who he was. But those who watched Slavia’s summer friendlies knew exactly what to expect from Boluwatife Victor Ogungbayi.
If he hadn’t already impressed someone with his atypical hairstyle, his play certainly won them over. When the opposition had the ball, he always made it difficult for them with his pressing.
He was reminiscent of Peter Olayinka at the beginning of his involvement in Slavia – he was also useful to the team in the first months, primarily by attacking.
At the same time, as an African, he clearly knew how to handle the ball and wasn’t afraid to shoot. He showed that not only in the preparation, even during his debut for the A-team on Thursday he once tested goalkeeper Zorja with a shot from the edge of the box. Not much was missing.
The assist for the second goal could be his ticket to the next A-team matches, because it was not just any pass. There were already gasps in the stands, the spectators thought Petr Ševčík had overhit the centre. The Nigerian, however, closed the situation in an exemplary manner.
And since Ogungbayi was on the scoresheet, he made us forget that defensively he didn’t look confident against Zorja. But that can be attributed to making his debut in front of a sold-out stadium, at the same time he is used to playing in attack, not at wing-back.
Specifically, he has jumped in twice this year for the B-team at left wing. He shone with a goal and an assist against Králov Dvor, and he was already on the bench for the A-team at the weekend, but didn’t get a look in against Baník.
