Don’t go with Björn Borg! The confident Alcaraz plans to break completely different records!
It is already inherently among the world’s top and is heading even higher. Carlos Alcaraz has set another interesting record, but in truth, it doesn’t excite him too much. The Spaniard has the highest goals.
It is already inherently among the world’s top and is heading even higher. Carlos Alcaraz has set another interesting record, but in truth, it doesn’t excite him too much. The Spaniard has the highest goals. What benchmarks would the ambitious tennis player like to reach and will he take a crucial step towards them this week in Melbourne?
Alcaraz at the Grand Slams
A quarter-final at the 2022 French Open, an eighth-place finish at Wimbledon in the same year and a subsequent triumph at the US Open. Carlos Alcaraz followed up these performances last season with a semi-final appearance in Paris, a legendary victory at Wimbledon and a semi-final appearance at the US Open.
The Spanish tennis player’s current performance at the Australian Open means one thing. The successor to Rafael Nadal as Spain’s number one has broken Bjorn Borg’s previous record and become the youngest tennis player ever to reach at least the eighth round at seven consecutive majors.
For the record, Alcaraz did not participate in last year’s Melbourne Major. So this year’s Grand Slam has no bearing on that series.
However, overcoming Borg is not enough for the Spanish tennis player, even though he is happy with every success. Carlito has higher goals and he revealed what they are. Let’s add that the comparison of the beginning of his career with Djokovic, Federer and Nadal entitles him to a certain amount of confidence.
A look at Djokovic
“The records I want to break are the ones that Novak (Djokovic) is breaking. These are the goals I have set for my career,” reveals the 20-year-old tennis player of his high ambitions. The owner of two Grand Slam titles, however, probably cannot aim low.
Djokovic would like to try to win a calendar grand slam. And if Alcaraz wants the same thing as him, then he actually already started fulfilling his goal last year. It was the Serb’s performance at the aforementioned Wimbledon that blocked that dream.
And this year, he can already start at the Australian Open, because his performance here is getting better match by match. His performance in the eighth round against Serbian Kecmanovic was already dominant. He didn’t even need two hours on court against his opponent to win 3: 0 in sets. And the Spaniard praises his current form.
His dream final with Djokovic is now on the horizon. Juan Carlos Ferrer’s protégé is now looking ahead to his match with Germany’s Zverev. Ted has needed five sets twice in Melbourne to advance and will be a clear underdog against Alcaraz.
At the top of the leaderboard, Italy’s Sinner is again grinding his teeth against Djokovic. Medvedev is also waiting for Alcaraz. There’s definitely something to look forward to in the second week of the Australian Open.
