Looks like it’s done. Just before the end of the transfer period, João Cancelo will change his place of work and leave for Barcelona, who have been interested in him for a long time.

Until about two years ago, João Cancelo was one of the best runners in the world. Pep Guardiola tailored a role for him at the Citizens, the position of an inverted left-back, who retreated to the middle of the pitch to play the ball, suited him brilliantly.

But last season, Cancelo began to fade a little. Guardiola stopped building him somewhat, which logically did not sit well with the Portuguese footballer. Thus, there was supposed to be an altercation at training, after which the Spanish coach ordered Cancelo’s departure.

Bayern Munich immediately jumped on the 29-year-old back, taking him on a six-month loan. But even at Bayern, Cancelo gradually dropped out of the squad. It is not surprising that the Munich club was not interested in extending their cooperation.

Cancelo, however, does not have to worry about the lack of interest. He has found admirers in Catalonia. Barcelona had wanted to sign the Portuguese since the winter, but finances were a problem.

However, this was resolved in the summer. According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, the arrival of Cancelo to Barcelona is ready, the Catalans together with Manchester City representatives will sign the transfer documents today.

The Portuguese is expected to leave for Barcelona this evening. The Blaugranas are bringing in Cancelo on loan with an option.

For Xavi, Cancelo will be a bit of a salvation. Because he doesn’t have a pure right-back in the squad, with stoppers Jules Kounde and Ronaldo Araujo alternating in this position, or Sergi Roberto or left-back Alejandro Balde playing over the foot.
