Does he live in his own world? UFC beauty under fire from critics, her reaction to Amanda Nunes’ demise stirs passions
UFC 289 offered the end of a great fairy tale. The best fighter in history, Amanda Nunes, said goodbye to her career. This is quite hard to bear for her last conqueror Julianna Peña, who was supposed to close the trilogy with her at the aforementioned gala. But it will never happen again.
Amanda Nunes was supposed to defend her title at UFC 289 against the rival who defeated her at the end of 2021. Back then, Julianna Peña took care of a big sensation and one of the biggest surprises in combat sports history.
It was clear there had to be a rematch. Nunes lost for the first time since 2014. She was only picking up wins, successful defenses and records. She was building her status as the best fighter in history. And when the rematch happened, the American beauty could only regret it.
The rematch may have ended on points, but the Brazilian gave a vastly different performance and Peña got what she deserved. She lost the title right away and didn’t enjoy it for long. The 1-1 record offered a conclusion to the trilogy and it was to happen, but Peña had to withdraw and was replaced by Irene Aldana.
Nunes dominated the five-round battle against her Mexican opponent, absolutely destroyed her with everything she had, enjoyed the match and then retired. So Peña won’t get a chance to face the greatest fighter of all time one more time.
She watched the whole situation right in the hall and loudly disagreed with the Brazilian legend’s decision. She also expressed her opinion on social media, where she showed zero respect for what Nunes had accomplished.
“I’m so scared you’re quitting. Personally, congratulations, professionally, what the hell? I take it as a compliment,” Peña expressed in several tweets.
Fans gave her a proper shake for it. They shared footage from her second duel with Nunes, where the Brazilian sent her down with a hard bomb, and had many comments. In particular, that if it wasn’t for one “lucky win” over the Brazilian, no one would know her yet.
There was also the scorecard from the aforementioned rematch, which Nunes dominated 50-45, 50-43 and 50-44, absolutely dominant and clear.
“You haven’t accomplished anything in sports. You’re only known for Amanda. Respect her size. You should beasking what you’re going to do now that you can’t ride her wave,” reads one of the most fawning comments.
