UFC 274 is over and this time the combat sports fans were not bored. One of the highlights of the night was Michael Chandler and Tony Ferguson. The victory was celebrated by the former, who finished the latter in the second round.
Tony Ferguson fell again, this time to Michael Chandler. But that means one thing, Ferguson’s last win was in the summer of 2019.
Since then, he has fallen for the fourth time in a row, which is really bad news for the fighter. So UFC fans are now speculating whether this is the end of him in the organization.
Dana White has now spoken about his future and he is definitely not giving up on Ferguson and we could continue to see him in the UFC in the future.
“Everybody has been asking me all week leading up to the fight if this is a defining fight for Tony Ferguson, to which I said no, because he’s still a top 10 lightweight fighter.
He looked damn good in the first round. That KO, however, was crazy. I think Tony needs to take a longer break now. After a KO like that, you just need to take a longer break and take it easy. What’s next for him? I don’t know. But it’s not like his opponent is dominating him.
He hasn’t put on a performance that makes you think he doesn’t belong in the UFC anymore. Tony looked damn good, but then he just got hit. In this game, that can happen and anybody can catch anybody in a similar fashion,” White said after the tournament.
So there will likely be an effort on the part of the UFC to extend his contract, but Ferguson has said in the past that he’s happy to listen to other offers.
