Who do you think will win the prestigious BBC Sports Personality of the Year award? Vote for your favourite now. Here’s a selection of the six athletes who will be vying for your vote.

The nominations for the prestigious award were announced by the BBC on Monday, 6 December. The day after the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, which incidentally involved a series of incidents between nominee Max Verstappen and his rival Lewis Hamilton.

Verstappen has been battling for the world championship this Formula 1 season with the previous winner of that prize. That is none other than the aforementioned Hamilton. Both drivers currently have the same number of points and the title will be decided in the last race of the season in Abu Dhabi.

The Dutch driver is one of the six nominees for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award. However, there are other equally interesting names on the list.

Another name on the list is Saúl Canelo Alvarez. The professional boxer became the first and undisputed super-middleweight champion of the world last month and made history by holding belts from four separate governing bodies at the same time.

But arguably the biggest name on the list is Novak Djokovic, who has three Grand Slam victories to his name this year. The Serbian tennis player has won the Australian Open, the French Open and, last but not least, Wimbledon.

The number four star is Tom Brady, who represents American football. This year he not only helped the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to win the Super Bowl, he also became a seven-time Super Bowl winner with this feat.

But you can also vote for two women – Elaine Thompson and Rachael Blackmore. Athlete Thompson won three gold medals for Jamaica at the Tokyo Olympics, winning the 100 metres, 200 metres and 4×100 metres.

Blackmore, on the other hand, is the first female jockey to win the Grand National in April. You can vote for your favourite on the BBC’s website, with voting set to close on Tuesday, December 14, five days before the ceremony.
