  • Djokovic crashed out in the second round at the US Open
  • American Tiafoe says he should have stayed home
  • The Serbian admitted that not participating in the last Grand Slam of the year was an option

This year is a breakthrough year. Especially because for the first time in many years, none of the Big Three players has won a Grand Slam title.

And no wonder, Novak Djokovic was left on this mission practically alone. In fact, Nadal’s comeback was short-lived. And the Belgrade native hasn’t triumphed at a major this year either.

The Serbian tennis player doesn’t have much to regret, because he has achieved his main goal. He won the Olympic Games and practically completed the collection of all the prestigious trophies that can be conquered in the world of tennis.

But according to some, he should have rather prolonged the celebration of the Olympic gold. One of the biggest favourites among the Americans admitted that in Djokovic’s place he would have stayed at home and celebrated like crazy.

Djokovic was considering not attending

His participation in this year’s US Open was a record. Unfortunately, in a negative way. The legendary Serb dropped out of the last Grand Slam of the year in the second round.

And he was understandably not happy with his performance. He even called his match with Popyrin one of the worst of his career.

Although the Serb’s results this year are full of ups and downs, his elimination at the US Open was a shock. It is clear that he left everything in Paris and did not arrive in New York in top form.

But the surprise is that his non-participation in the US Open was up in the air. “I was even considering whether to come to New York or not,” Djokovic confessed . But in the end he came because it is a Grand Slam.

The 37-year-old tennis player did not specify whether he would devote the time he saved to the celebrations. But it’s clear that we won’t see him on the courts many more times before the end of the year.
