World number one Novak Djokovic hopes that the coronavirus vaccine will not be mandatory for professional tennis players. Moreover, the Serb has already had the disease in the past.

In an interview with CNN reporters earlier this week, the thirty-three-year-old Serb insisted that he would not reveal whether he would be vaccinated in the future. He hopes the vaccination will not be mandatory, at least not for professional tennis players.

“I don’t think it will happen. I hope not, because I’ve always believed in freedom of choice,” Djokovic said in an interview with CNN.

“I will still decide whether to get vaccinated or not,” he said. “It’s a confidential decision and I don’t want to get into this game of pro and con of vaccines that unfortunately the media is creating today.”

Djokovic tested positive for the coronavirus last year after an exhibition he hosted in Croatia. The Serb has previously said he would oppose mandatory vaccinations.

Djokovic won the Australian Open earlier this year, making it his 18th Grand Slam title. He also broke Roger Federer’s record for the number of weeks spent at No. 1 on the ATP rankings.
