The football summit in Qatar has only just begun on Sunday, one of the tennis ones in Italy is over. The Tournament of Champions, hosted by Turin’s Pala Alpitour arena, culminated with the final matches. In the singles, Novak Djokovic rejoiced in his sixth title from the prestigious event, while Ram and Salisbury are the reigning doubles champions.

The singles competition was marred by the absence of the current world number one. Spanish youngster Carlos Alcaraz was absent from the event for the top tennis players in the ATP rankings due to an abdominal muscle injury.

The final clash was catered by the Norwegian-Serbian duel between Casper Ruud and Novak Djokovic. It was a duel between the current number four and eight in the singles rankings.

In the first set, both tennis players held their serves for a long time. The decision of the opening act was brought by a break, which the holder of 21 Grand Slam championships managed at the end of the set. The set ended 7:5.

Gradually, Djokovic became more successful and managed to dominate the second set in a more decisive way. He used his first match point, which he won in a long exchange of 36 shots. He won the set with a total score of 6:3

The star Serbian thus equalled another legend of white sport, Roger Federer, in the historical rankings. Like the Swiss, who recently retired from a storied career, he has six Tournament of Champions titles to his credit. And it’s not out of the question that he’ll fight for more in the future.

Before the singles, the doubles culminated in the afternoon. Rajeev Ram and Joe Salisbury were up against Croatians Nikola Mekic and Mate Pavic. The American-British duo won in two sets.

The final lasted less than an hour and a half. The first set was decided by a tiebreak, the result of which was 7:4. Pavic’s serve gave birth to a break, which was enough for the opponents to win 6: 4 and bring the match to a successful end.

Ram and Salisbury added another joint success to their collection. In addition to defending their triumph at the US Open this year, they also managed to reach the title at the Monte Carlo and Cincinnati tournaments. In 2020, they will be Australian Open champions.
