Novak Djokovic is an Olympic champion! In an excellent battle with Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, he won 2: 0 in sets and can enjoy his new gold medal.

  • Djokovic has Olympic gold
  • He defeated Spain’s Alcaraz in an excellent battle
  • He won bronze at the 2008 Olympics

In fact, the final could not have offered us a more interesting match. It pitted the number two and three in the ATP rankings, Novak Djokovic, against the much younger Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz.

The paper predictions promised an evenly matched battle, which we saw. Both had the opportunity for several break points during the first set, but always held their serve.

The opening set went to a tiebreak, where the Serb was more successful, winning 7:3. Djokovic thus went for his first Olympic gold, having so far only won bronze in 2008 in Beijing.

Whoever expected Alcaraz to mark it on the psyche could not be further right. The Spaniard continued to play his game and we watched an essentially identical set.

Both tennis players held their serve, although Alcaraz struggled a few times. This brought the second set back to 6: 6 and it was on to another tiebreak.

Djokovic was the luckier tennis player in this one, as he didn’t make too many mistakes during the match and deservedly won 7:6 and 7:6. Alcaraz will have to wait at least four more years for Olympic gold.
