According to Nadal and Djokovic, the timetable and probably the whole management of the famous Rolland Garros tournament is simply a big problem for tennis players. The matches start late in the evening, so at the press conference after the quarter-finals they reminded the topic and expressed their opinion. Djokovic in particular was firing sharply.

Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal played a very attractive quarter-final of the famous Rolland Garros on Tuesday 31 May at 9 p.m.

The Spanish tennis player defeated Djokovic in four sets 6::2, 4::6, 6::2 and 7::6 to advance to the semifinals of the tournament. However, this duel was significantly prolonged, the total time after the end of the match was four hours and twelve minutes.

Djokovic and Nadal thus finished a little after one o’clock in the morning, with both tennis players complaining afterwards and criticising the French Open schedule. Although Nadal has two days off before the semi-final duel, he did not let the late starts go unnoticed.

“The matches start very late, there’s no question about that. I understand that TV pays a lot of money, but we should find a better compromise, ” Nadal said at a press conference.

However, it was Djokovic who fired the sharper bullets at the press conference. “It’s too late. But TV is paying, so they decide who plays tonight. That’s probably how it works.”

Former world number one and tournament director Amélie Mauresme, however, rejects this criticism, even though several tennis players have complained about the timing during Rolland Garros.

Mauresme is not planning to move the start of the remaining matches to an earlier hour. Thus, at the press conference, she added to the criticism of the two tennis players by stating that the evening matches will continue to take place.
