Diego Costa is close to a return to the Premier League! Which team will we see him in?

Diego Costa has had quite a long break from football, as he has been a free agent for the last 8 months. Now, however, he is close to a comeback, and a proper one at that. He should return to the English Premier League, where he had probably the best period of his career. Wolverhampton are interested in him.

The hot-blooded Spanish striker played in the top English league from 2014 to 2017 for Chelsea. He played 89 league games for the London club in which he scored a solid 52 goals. But then, due to a bad relationship with Antonio Conte, he went back to Atlético Madrid, from where he came to London.

He didn’t score as well for the Spanish club, scoring just 19 goals in 81 games before agreeing to terminate his contract with the club in December 2020. He then swapped Europe for South America and signed for Brazilian side Atlético Mineiro last summer.

He lasted only 5 months there and has been a free agent again since January. But that may not be the case for much longer. In fact, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Costa is heading to Wolverhampton Wanderers on trial to try and get a contract.

Wolves are reacting to the unfavourable situation in attack. They did bring in Sasha Kalajdzic from Stuttgart for £15.5m during the transfer window, but he injured his anterior cruciate ligament on his debut against Southampton and will have to take a longer break.

In addition, number 1 striker Raúl Jimenéz, who was troubled by a knee injury during the summer training, was injured before the same game.

Wolves are forced to look for a replacement among free agents like Diego Costa due to the closing of the transfer window.

The experienced veteran could still be a valid player given his ability and experience in English football, but everything will depend on whether he convinces Wolves to offer him a contract during the trial.

If that happens, it will be another proper spice to an already packed Premier League.
