The weekend victory over Celta Vigo marked Julen Lopetegui’s 70th win in 118 games. This great record makes him the most successful Sevilla coach in history.

The experienced coach headed to Sevilla after a very difficult period when he was sacked from both the Spanish national team and Real Madrid. At the time, Lopetegui was at rock bottom, as he himself admitted several times. His success is all the more valuable!

Because after two years in the south of Spain, he has now convinced the entire football world that he is an excellent coach who certainly did not deserve such treatment. Unfortunately, football is like that.

Sevilla has been a very successful club for many years, but no one in the club’s history has ever accumulated 59% of the games won! We must certainly mention the fact that under his leadership, the Spanish club was defeated only 29% of the time.

But even more successful are his statistics in the cups. In the Champions League, he and his team recorded only two defeats out of 10 matches. Last season, however, Sevilla fell short to Borussia Dortmund in the first round of the play-offs and in the current one, they have so far picked up two points from draws with Salzburg and Wolfsburg.

In the Europa League, his charges have won 9 out of 12 matches, which brought them the first place last year, when after eliminating AS Roma, Wolves, Manchester United, they also beat Inter in the final.

In the Copa del Rey, Lopetegui then celebrated 9 matches won out of 11.

Sevilla certainly cannot compete financially with the biggest three Spanish teams, but they can keep up with them sportingly. The same is true in the cups, where it can knock out far bigger teams than itself.

Lopetegui and co. have also had a great start to the current season, as they are currently in third place, 3 points behind leaders Real Sociedad. However, it has a game in hand over the Basque side.

And the Spanish coach can be counted on to improve his great statistics even further. In the next few days his team will play Lille, Levante, Mallorca and Osasuna.
