Lionel Messi is an absolute idol and an untouchable god for Barcelona fans. However, this does not apply to the club’s previous management, who were very fond of the Argentine footballer. The problem was supposed to be Messi’s behaviour regarding finances.

The messages exchanged by the former Barcelona board, chaired by Josep María Bartomeu, reveal the great animosity that the management felt towards the ‘heavyweights’ in the cabinet.

In leaked Whatsapp messages carried by the Spanish daily El Periodico, Román Gómez Ponti, then head of Barcelona’s legal department, leans hard on Messi.

On the day El Mundo published the extent of Messi’s contract, Gómez Ponti was furious and sent a scathing message to the group aimed at the club legend.

“Barto, really, you can’t be so nice to such a sewer rat. The club gave him everything and he dedicated himself to running his dictatorship regarding transfers, contract extensions and sponsors just the way he wanted. And to his contract you have to add Pinto, the extensions of Suárez and Jordi Alba and also the commission for the extension of Fati (Rodrigo Messi, agent?)” wrote Gómez to Ponti Bartome.

“And above all, his blackmail and rude behaviour have accumulated, which the club and all of us who work for it have had to endure from this hormonal midget! After all, he owes his whole life to Barca… ah!” raged the head of the legal department.

“But when something goes wrong (the pandemic), you get that mythical whatsapp: ‘Presi, cut everyone else’s salary, but don’t touch me and Luis.’ Perhaps he will start to be indifferent to people, which is the worst thing that can happen to him,” Gómez Pontí added.

Furthermore, the former management leaned on Gerard Piqué, who said after the 2:8 defeat to Bayern that decisive changes were needed at the club. “You have to be a big f*ck for that,” the group said.

The thread was not left dry for Sergio Busquets. According to Gómez Ponti, he is one of the players nobody wants on the market and the club cannot get rid of him.
