The long-awaited departure of the Brazilian international has become a reality. The English team has finally reached an agreement with Barcelona for a loan deal until the end of the season with an optional option. How much can the Birmingham club buy him for and who will pay his salary?
Philippe Coutinho is definitely leaving for Aston Villa. However, the loan until the end of the season may eventually turn into a permanent transfer. Neither of the clubs involved have confirmed the clause, but media reports agree that the option to buy is in the region of €40 million.
So the big question remains whether the English side will exercise the clause. It will all depend on whether Coutinho can recreate the best version of himself at Villa Park. Similarly, Tottenham London have the option to use this clause.
It should be recalled that just four years ago, Coutinho left Liverpool for the Catalan capital for a sum approaching 135 million euros. Today, his market value is estimated at €18 million.
The Brazilian will head to England at the beginning of the week as he is still in isolation due to the Covid-19 disease, after which he should undergo a medical. However, according to reports, Barcelona would not contribute a single euro towards his salary.
In fact, Aston Villa will pay up to two-thirds of that amount, which is around €8 million. The rest should be paid by Barcelona. However, Coutinho waived this “rest”.
Barcelona therefore has more room for manoeuvre to register new reinforcements. In addition, the player’s agent made 800 thousand euros from the whole operation.
