The Czech Republic will face Denmark in the quarter-finals of the European Championship on Saturday. The Nordic coach Kasper Hjulmand is also preparing for the match. What did he say at the press conference in Baku?
The Danes will go into the match without their biggest star Christian Eriksen, who collapsed in the match against the Finns and now logically cannot play.
“We will play for Christian Eriksen, he is still the heart of our team. He is the one who inspires us to play without fear and to perform the way we do.”
The Danish squad should be complete, with only a question mark hanging over the start of Yussuf Poulsen, who missed the eighth-final against Wales due to injury.
“The medical team has confirmed that everyone is fit. The players are ready, they all want to play. We’ll see what happens after training and tomorrow, especially regarding Yussuf Poulsen.”
The coach, who has Bundesliga experience, added that both teams were rightfully among the top eight. He expects a good-looking and balanced football.
“We are expecting a great match between two teams that both deserve to be where they are. We will show great and intense football tomorrow, you have a lot to look forward to. It will be very even.”
Despite the high temperature that will be in the stadium during the match, Hjulmand will wear his black long-sleeved shirt. Why? He wore it, for example, in the high-scoring 4-0 win over Austria and in the key group match against Russia.
“I’m trying not to be superstitious, but I wore the shirt at Wembley, in the game against Austria and against Russia, so I thought I’d wear it again,” Hjulmand concluded.
