One of the hidden favourites, Denmark, will play its first match at the European Championships on Saturday. They will play Finland, the biggest outsider in the group. Who will win?
Denmark has had a successful preparation for the tournament. First they drew 1-1 with Germany and then, thanks to goals from Martin Braithwaite and Andreas Cornelius, they beat Bosnia and Hergegovina 2-0 in the dress rehearsal.
Finland did not have an ideal start to the championship. First, they were not able to beat the Swiss in the shootout (2: 3), then they did not score a goal in the derby with Sweden and lost 0: 2, and in the dress rehearsal they lost ignominiously to Estonia 0: 1.
Yussuf Poulsen is Denmark’s offensive mainstay, the Leipzig forward has scored 17 goals (11+6) this season, while Christian Eriksen and Andreas Christensen have also had good seasons.
Finland puts everything on Teemu Pukki and no wonder, he has scored twenty-six goals and assisted four times this season. Glen Kamara and Lukas Hradecky are also stars of the team.
The fact that the Danes are one of the dark horses of the tournament is clearly confirmed by the fact that they have lost only once in their last twelve games (9-2-1).
The Finns are the other way around, they last won in November (0-2-4) and are definitely not in a good shape.
Given the form of the whole team and the quality of Denmark’s defense, I think they will win the game with a clean sheet.
