Canadian Alphonso Davies scored in the second minute, but the visiting defence knocked his attempt away for a corner kick. Bayern were not dominant, however, as Mainz tried to threaten from quick breaks.
In the 13th minute, the Allianz Arena was already celebrating, after excellent work by Jamal Musiala with his back to goal, Harry Kane cleared into an empty net. A minute later, the Englishman had his 30th league goal of the season. But only headed into the middle of the net.
In the 20th minute it was two shots up, Kane first hit the left post, but Leon Goretzka was the beneficiary of the finish. It could have been even worse for the underdog. But the penalty kick after Kane’s shot was called back by the head referee after watching the replay. It wasn’t a hand.
On the other side, Nadiem Amiri took care of the reduction, a beautiful shot from distance gave Manuel Neuer no chance. An attractive half-time offered two more missed opportunities for Bayern and one for Mainz. The biggest one missed by Joshua Kimmich.

However, in the seventh minute of the long setup, Munich still struck, with the second goal of the match celebrated by the killer Kane. After the change of sides, the home side immediately added another goal, just like against Lazio, Thomas Müller scored again.
The visitors then missed their chance, while on the other side Kane and Musiala swapped roles from the first half. This time the young German scored. In the 66th minute Bayern’s sixth goal was scored by substitute Serge Gnabry.
In the 70th minute, Kane completed his hat-trick. His shot was initially disallowed, but after consulting VAR the referee waived offside. The final whistle was blown, with Goretzka setting the final score at 8-1.
Bayern thus reduced Bayer Leverkusen’s lead to seven points for at least a day, while Mainz remain second to last.
