Four years have passed since Ousmane Dembélé’s transfer to Barcelona and the Frenchman has still failed to live up to the club’s expectations. His value has dropped by a staggering 70 million euros. This year, however, everything could change. Ronald Koeman is said to be counting on the skilful winger and expects him to become the new building block of the entire starting line-up.
Ousmane Dembélé has been a Barcelona player since the summer of 2017. He moved to Camp Nou just after the departure of Neymar, whom he was supposed to replace. However, he never managed to fulfil his potential, largely due to constant and recurring injuries.
After the hiring of Ronald Koeman as the club’s coach, the Frenchman briefly managed to break into the starting lineup and seemed to finally break his curse. However, he subsequently suffered a recurrence of his hamstring injury, so he had to undergo surgery after Euro 2020 and is now in the process of recovering.
However, the current coach has great confidence in his abilities and wants to help him permanently integrate into the team. Barcelona think the way they have approached the player so far has been all wrong. Therefore, the club’s staff have redesigned a precise schedule for Dembélé to help monitor his eating habits and rest time.
Furthermore, the club plans to set a plan for him that would optimize his mental and psychological state of mind and keep the player mentally fit as well. The player is even expected to meet the club officials next week to discuss the extension of his contract, as his current one expires in a year.
The contract should also include his new reduced salary, which is understandable given the financial problems the Catalans are facing.
Dembélé’s transfer to Barcelona seems to be a relatively recent one, all the more surprising given that in that time the player has managed to suffer and recover from fifteen injuries. In the Frenchman’s time at Barcelona alone, three managers have managed to change in the club chair and a number of long-time mainstays have left the team, including the star offensive duo Messi, Suárez.
The Blaugranas are in financial trouble and the entire team is forced to rely more on players and club alumni than on potential transfers. Therefore, the new season seems to be the perfect opportunity for the Frenchman to finally live up to the expectations of the club and the public.
The player has been given a new number 7 after the departed Griezmann and the entire board of the club is behind him, hoping that Dembélé will finally build on his form from Borussia Dortmund and lead Barcelona, along with Memphis Depay, towards a better tomorrow through his goals and assists.
