Ousmane Dembélé is still a Barcelona player, the Catalan team relies on him a lot. However, the French footballer’s contract expires in the summer and his extension is in sight. According to the media, the problem was supposed to be money, but the player’s agent claims otherwise.

Barcelona bought Ousmane Dembélé in the summer of 2017 from Dortmund for the astronomical sum of 140 million euros. Now, according to Transfermarkt, the player is worth €30 million and, in addition, his contract expires in the summer.

Xavi, the coach of the Catalan team, wants the French footballer to stay at the club, even though he often labours with injuries. He would like Barcelona’s game to depend on him.

However, things are looking bleak for a contract extension. In particular, there have been reports in the foreign media that Dembélé is set to demand too high a salary from the club. However, the player’s agent refutes this.

“Often when a contract extension is discussed, money is talked about, but it’s not just about money. It’s also about the everyday life of footballers. For example, it is difficult for us to understand that Ousmane started the game after having undergone a coronavirus without a single training session,” Moussa Sissoko expressed his views to the media.

The Frenchman can now negotiate with clubs other than Barcelona. According to French outlet L’Equipe, London’s Chelsea are the biggest favourites to get Dembélé. PSG are said to be out of the race.

However, Newcastle are also interested in the Barcelona star, who need to save themselves in the Premier League in order for the arrival of wealthy owners to have the quickest impact.
