This would be a big bomb and a huge boost for Chelsea who have not started the new season well at all. Barcelona need to get rid of Frenkie de Jong because of his big salary and Chelsea have come up with an offer and would love to get the Dutchman.

Yet all summer it looked like de Jong would head to Manchester United. There, coach Erik ten Hag, who knows him well from Ajax, was eminently interested in him and would have built a whole game around his former charge.

Even Barcelona were in favour of the transfer and agreed with the Red Devils on a sum of 80 million euros. Everything was agreed, all that was left was de Jong’s consent. And he didn’t come, for a number of reasons.

the 25-year-old midfielder does not want to leave Barcelona, where he has become accustomed to a high standard of living and good weather, something Manchester certainly cannot offer him. It may sound ridiculous, but it was the weather that de Jong’s father cited as the main reason why he doesn’t see himself in England.

And another reason why de Jong hasn’t nodded off at Old Trafford is the absence of the Champions League. Manchester United will only play the Europa League and the Dutchman doesn’t want to play that.

So the Red Devils turned their attention to Casemiro and acquired the five-time Champions League winner for the same amount.

Except that de Jong might be moving to England anyway, but to London. In fact, Chelsea are set to offer the player a contract with a salary of €18 million, according to journalist Gerard Romero.

The Blues did not start the Premier League in good form, winning only twice out of five games, losing twice and drawing once. That’s why a last-minute reinforcement would surely be good for Tuchel.

In England, the transfer window closes today, August 31 at 11pm. The Blues must act quickly if they want to complete the transfer.
