De Bruyne: The end of the national team? I don’t like to think about it. I’ve been playing for the national team for ten years

Belgium, after defeating Slovakia, managed to beat Romania and still hold their chances of qualification in their hands. After the game, Kevin De Bruyne stood in front of the press and talked about his possible retirement from the national team, which, even considering his age, is imminent.

The start of the EURA has gone horribly wrong for Belgium. Against Slovakia, the underestimation came and Ivan Schranz’s goal put the Red Devils under pressure. The team struggled to get out of it, but eventually struck twice.

Unfortunately for the Belgians, Romelu Lukaku’s first goal was preceded by an offside, while the second was prevented by the hand of his teammate. Slovakia took the three points.

Belgium challenged Romania on Saturday evening and was the favourite in the match. The performance wasn’t quite ideal, but Youri Tielemans took the lead first and Kevin De Bruyne followed up in the end.

The Manchester City midfielder took advantage of a long kick from the goalkeeper and then outmuscled Florin Nita, who gave him no chance. The experienced footballer was visibly in good spirits after the game.

“We were already under a lot of pressure, so it was good to get rid of that. I just had to poke the ball,” De Bruyne told the national team’s social networks.

He was also asked about his possible end of the national team. The player is still only 32 years old, but he admitted some time ago that he has been tired for a long time and the demanding schedule is not doing him any good.

“When I leave the team, it will depend a lot on the management. I thought it was more that there are still a lot of young guys coming through,” explained De Bruyne, who will probably stick around for another year.

“I’ve been playing for the national team for ten years now and I can share my knowledge with them, but I haven’t thought about whether I’ll end up playing for the national team here. I don’t like to think about when I’m going to quit or my future in general,” he added.
