Davies should have turned down a new contract at Bayern Munich, Real Madrid want to get the Canadian at any cost in the summer

Bayern Munich will soon have to deal with a very unpleasant situation. It has Alphonso Davies, one of the best left backs of today, in its squad, but the question is for how long.
The Canadian has a contract until 2025 and, according to German and Spanish media, refuses to extend it. Even Bayern chairman Herbert Hainer has admitted slight concerns.
“He has a contract with us until June 2025, he is one of the best backs in the world. Of course we want to keep Davies and we hope he will also want to stay,” Hainer was recently quoted as saying.
But therein lies the rub. Davies has previously stated that he doesn’t live well in Munich, feels lonely and is not very happy there. And with his refusal to extend his contract, other suitors are coming into the picture.
There is no quality back
The biggest one is supposed to be Real Madrid. Because it lacks a quality left back like salt. Firstly, Ferland Mendy is constantly injured and secondly, although he is quality defensively, he doesn’t really support the attack. And Real fans are not used to that since the days of Marcelo or Roberto Carlos.
Summer returnee and offspring Fran García has been putting in likeable performances, but there is the occasional defensive lapse and so far he fits the role of a quality substitute rather than earning a solid place in the starting lineup.
Moreover, Florentino Pérez likes to buy players before the end of their contracts. He just snapped up Toni Kroos from Bayern like this in 2014, whose contract was up in a year. The €25 million transfer is still considered one of the biggest “steals”.
Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard also arrived a year before the end of the contract. And David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger arrived as free agents at the end of their contracts.
Moreover, everything is pointing towards Real Madrid wanting to sell Mendy, which would free up space for Davies. The whole situation is further helped by the fact that Real Madrid’s management has a great relationship with Bayern and negotiations should start next spring.
