David Kozma has his third defense of the Octagon Welterweight title under his belt. Now enjoying a well-deserved vacation, he took the time to talk about his plans.
King of the Octagon David Kozma has certainly not been bored over the past year
David Kozma is considered the king of the leading Czechoslovak MMA organization Oktagon. He holds the welterweight championship belt and has managed three epic defenses in the last year alone. Last May he fought a memorable war with Brazilian Apollo, then in December he stood tough in a battle with Serbian Velickovic.
On Monday it will be a month since he faced the legend of the domestic scene Petr “Monster” Kniz. But he passed even this difficult test, and so he scheduled some time off. He found time to do an interview for Kaocko.cz, where he outlined his plans for the future and commented on the situations that move not only the domestic scene.
As recently confirmed by the owner of the Oktagon organization Ondřej Novotný, Kozma will now rest for some time and could return to the title carousel at the December Oktagon in Ostravar Arena. His opponent will be the number two in the division, Brazilian Kaik Brito.
What does he say about a possible move to the UFC?
“I would prefer Brito anyway, when I beat him, the whole division will be cleaned up,” Kozma confirmed his possible opponent to Kaocko.cz. “Then I guess I could really head to the UFC,” joked the Pink Panther.
After the world’s biggest organization UFC recently confirmed the engagement of two other Czech MMA prospects Matej Peňaz and Tereza Bledá, who will fight for a contract with the famous organization in the Contender series, the question arose whether the time has come for David Kozma.
“I always set myself only the most immediate goals, so the main thing for me is to defend the belt again in December and if the UFC calls, we’ll see,” he responded to the rumors about the UFC. “It’s not certain that I would take it, I would be a nobody there, whereas in the Octagon I’m the main star of the whole organization,” he described his attitude.
The Pink Panther offered his opinion on Vemola and Prochazka’s next duels
He also weighed in on the Karlos Vémola vs. Marpo boxing match and Jiri Procházka’s June title fight with Brazilian Glover Teixeira. “I think Vémola will win, he will lead the duel to victory with his weight advantage and excellent condition,” he predicted.
“I firmly believe that Jirka will beat Teixeira, after all Glover is an older gentleman, his motivation will not be the same as Jirka’s,” he offered his opinion on the biggest fight in the history of Czech MMA. “Jirka’s appetite is so great that he will just go and win,” he added about the Moravian samurai.
