On Friday night we will have another quarterfinal match at the Rogers Cup with Daniil Medvedev and Hubert Hurkacz. Will the number one seed confirm his role as the paper favourite?
Daniil Medvedev has made huge progress over the last few years. The 25-year-old Russian-born tennis player is currently second in the ATP rankings with a comfortable lead over Stefanos Tsitsipas.
In the current season, Medvedev has dominated the events in Marseille and Mallorca. He undoubtedly has similar intentions at the Rogers Cup, where he fills the role of the number one seed. So far, he is doing very well, having knocked out both Bublik and Duckworth.
His next opponent will be Hubert Hurkacz. The 24-year-old from Poland is currently ranked 13th in the ATP rankings. In case of Saturday’s triumph, he would move ahead of Pablo Carreno-Busta, the Olympic bronze medalist.
Hubert Hurkacz has played only one match on Canadian concrete so far. Due to the withdrawal of Kei Nishikori, the native of Wroclaw played only in the third round, in which he was defeated by Nikoloz Basilashvili.
So what to bet on? Hurkacz dominated the only previous meeting at Wimbledon, but Medvedev remains the paper favourite. He is the current favourite to win the tournament in Toronto.
However, Hubert Hurkacz has already managed to surprise his opponents from the elite ten several times. I expect an even match, which should offer at least twenty games. You can bet on it at odds of 1.35.
