Daniel Křetínský recently became the owner of 27% of West Ham United. Fans of the London team hoped that with the new owner may come some interesting reinforcements. However, Křetínský refuses to do so.
Daniel Křetínský, in addition to his stake in West Ham, also owns Sparta Prague. He has already had unpleasant experiences with the latter regarding big spending. He doesn’t want to invest a large amount of money during one transfer window when he has had unpleasant experiences.
The Czech footprint at West Ham was started in the 1990s by goalkeeper Luděk Mikloška. He was followed by Tomáš Řepka and Radoslav Kováč. Now the club has a trio of Tomas Soucek, Vladimir Coufal and Alex Kral. Křetínský is the latest Czech addition to the London club.
Křetínský believes that buying a stake in West Ham was a good investment for the future. However, he cannot focus on big purchases at the moment because the club has to pay off its debts. He will try to improve the capital structure of the Hammers.
”I came to support the club. That doesn’t mean we will spend too much right away in January. We want to follow the path of gradual evolution and we want to build a strong club on a solid foundation with the right attitude and culture,” the Czech investor said.
Current West Ham coach David Moyes is doing a fantastic job. He does not spend a lot of money on buying players, yet he is making the team a great competition in the Premier League for giants like Manchester City or Liverpool.
Kretinski’s unpleasant experience with Italian coach Stramaccioni and several expensive signings in a short period of time has shown that it’s not all about money. He hasn’t outright said he won’t strengthen West Ham, but we shouldn’t expect much.
Kladivar fans were hoping that if Křetínský, as the owner of Sparta Prague, teamed up with West Ham, it would increase the chances of Adam Hložek’s transfer to this English team. Křetínský did not comment on this.
