Damn quarterfinals! Three Czech tennis players finished
Both Karolina Pliskova and Petra Kvitova were aiming for the semi-finals in Stuttgart. However, neither of them made it and both failed to make it past the quarter-finals. The talented Katerina Siniakova finished in the same round in Istanbul.
Both Karolina Pliskova and Petra Kvitova were aiming for the semi-finals in Stuttgart. However, neither of them made it and both failed to make it past the quarter-finals. The talented Katerina Siniakova finished in the same round in Istanbul.
Petra Kvitova entered her duel with Elina Svitolina well. She managed to win the first set in a tie-break and even led 5:2 in the second set. However, she was unable to take advantage of a match point when the Ukrainian served.
This proved to be the turning point. The fifth player in the WTA rankings won the second set in her favour and the slight favourite took the third set. Kvitova was sent home.
Pliskova, who succumbed to Ashleigh Barty, also packed her bags. Like Kvitova, she had a good start to the clash, winning the first set 6:2. However, the next two sets did not go as she had hoped and therefore the semi-final gates did not open for her.
Even the talented Siniakova could not get past the quarterfinals. She could not keep up with the number one seed Elise Mertens, whom she lost to twice in Istanbul 4:6.
Results of the Czech tennis players:
Petra Kvitova – Svitolina 7::6, 5::7, 2::6
Karolina Pliskova – Barty 6::2, 1::6, 5::7
Katerina Siniakova – Mertens 4::6, 4::6
