Tyson Fury returns from fighting retirement this weekend
The “Gypsy King” is one of the most successful heavyweight boxers in the history of the sport, remaining undefeated during his 33 professional boxing bouts. Most recently, in April this year, he sold out London’s Wembley with a fight against Dillian Whyte.
Tyson Fury completely dominated the fight and landed a technical knockout on Whyte in the sixth round. Immediately after the win, he declared that it was his last fight between the sixteen ropes and that he was retiring from professional boxing.
However, his stay in fighting retirement didn’t last long and he has another fight scheduled for this weekend. After challenging Oleksandr Usyk or Anthony Joshua, he will finally face an opponent he has already beaten twice.
Tottenham Hotspur’s stadium will see Tyson Fury defend his WBC heavyweight title on Saturday. He will face British boxer Derek Chisora, who last defeated Bulgarian Pulev.
The Gypsy King describes a hard life without boxing
Tyson Fury visited The MMA Hour this week where he gave his traditional candid interview about his life without boxing. He also made the show’s host Ariel Helwani laugh when he answered his question about how his father John Fury’s potential fight with Jake Paul would turn out.
“I need boxing more than I ever thought I’d need anything,” Fury said. “I need it mentally, physically, emotionally, I’m not ready to let it go right now. I’ve been at home doing everything I wanted to do, spending time with my family, wanting to be that father, the kids, the school runs and walking the dog, I wanted to do all those things,” he recounted of his life without boxing.
“Then I realised that this is for normal people and I’m anything but a normal person, I’m like an abnormal alien,” he observed the turning point. “You can say I’m young at 34, but let’s face it, I’ve been a professional since I was 20, I have very worn out joints, I’ve been on drugs, alcohol, I’ve eaten terribly,” he described his worn-out body.
“Now I’m just focusing on Chisora, this guy is coming to blow my mind on Saturday night, I’m definitely not overlooking him,” he says, focusing on his opponent. “After the match I will decide what to do next, maybe I will retire again,” he added.
Dad would rip his heart out, he said of a possible Jake Paul vs. John Fury fight
The legendary boxer also commented on an incident that happened at his younger brother Tommy’s fight. His victorious fight was watched from the front row by well-known provocateur Jake Paul, who regularly challenged Tommy to a fight and it almost happened.
Jake Paul’s comments on the performance of the young boxer with the famous boxing name did not leave his father John Fury cold. The latter went straight to the middle of the ring and challenged the young YouTuber to a fight. The sight of a rampaging John Fury immediately went viral on social media.
“I think my dad would rip his heart out and give it to him and the man is nearly 60 years old,” Fury said.
