The Czech players in Leverkusen will most likely have a new teammate. According to the latest reports, Bayer is working on the arrival of the Girona captain. He has contributed significantly to his team’s surprising finish in the domestic competition this season.
The German side has had a really good season. They have won their first ever Bundesliga title and even recorded a double by winning the DFB Pokal final against Kaiserslautern.
Bayer recorded only one defeat in the entire competition year, in the Europa League final, where they lost to Atalanta Bergamo. Xabi Alonso’s charges did not reach the treble, but they still made their mark in the football annals.
However, with the summer transfer window looming, Leverkusen are looking to strengthen their ranks in order to at least maintain their position next season.
According to renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano, Bayer are hunting in the Spanish LaLiga. And specifically Girona, who have been a pleasant surprise this season. They finished third in the league table and qualified for the Champions League.
Leverkusen has now made a captain in their squad. Twenty-six-year-old Aleix García, who has started 37 out of 38 possible games in the domestic competition, has filled this role for Girona. He scored three goals and assisted six others.
Based on reports from Sky Sports Deutschland, García even has a verbal agreement with Leverkusen. He is expected to sign a long-term contract with the reigning Bundesliga champions. And the transfer fee? Girona are reportedly valuing him at between 15 and 20 million euros.
García arrived at Leverkusen in July 2021 from Eibar as a free agent. He played a total of 172 competitive games for the third LaLiga club, scoring eight goals and assisting another twenty-one.
