The Czech national football team is starting to look forward to the 2022 World Cup! Some Czechs are making Jaroslav Šilhavy very happy, but the football community is also haunted by injuries to Patrik Schick and Vladimir Coufal. How did the trio of Pavel Kadeřábek, Antonín Barák and Tomáš Souček fare in Europe’s top leagues?

Pavel Kadeřábek came on for Hoffenheim at the start of the second half and helped his team to turn the tide against Wolfsburg (2: 1). Kadeřábek assisted on Jacob Bruun Larsen’s equalising goal.

The ex-spartan was given a rating of 7.02 by the prestigious WhoScored statistics server. During the second half he had 23 touches with the ball and made two key passes. Defensively, he had two partial successes. Once he won the ball in a foot-to-foot duel and once he cleared the ball out of a dangerous area (for Hoffenheim).

Antonín Barák and his Verona side were reaching for José Mourinho’s scalp. Hellas Verona led AS Roma 2-0 at half-time, but the Romans eventually managed to level at 2-2. Barak scored in the 5th minute of the match with goal number 10!

WhoScored gave the Czech offensive midfielder a rating of 7.03. He had 59 touches with the ball and his pass success rate was 68%. The native of Pribram also had one successful dribble and was fouled once.

Unjudgmental criticism of Soucek

Who didn’t fare so well was national team captain Tomáš Souček. His West Ham drew with Newcastle 1-1 and some fans are starting to openly complain about the burly midfielder. The reason? From my point of view, too much complacency from the previous season and even a little disrespect.

The West Ham fan site wrote after the draw with Newcastle that if Soucek was 170cm he would be playing League 2, which is only the fourth highest competition in England.

This tweet sparked a big debate, with some fans joining in the criticism of the defensive midfielder and others defending him. In recent games, it is the Czech national team captain and also striker Michail Antonio who has faced the most criticism.

Tomáš Souček, meanwhile, has received one of the highest ratings from WhoScored for the Hammers (6.85). Fans’ favourite Declan Rice was at fault for the goal he conceded, got a lower rating and no criticism is directed at him.

The former Slavia mainstay had 42 touches of the ball in the game, his pass success rate was a respectable 76%. In addition, Suk created one key pass and finished once, plus he won 5 header duels (the most of any West Ham player).

He also proved his strength in defensive work, winning one ball in a foot to foot duel, intercepting an opponent’s pass twice, playing the ball to safety four times from the West Ham penalty area and blocking one shot.
