Czechs have a new teammate in Leverkusen! Will the Southampton winger be competition for Hložek?
Bayer Leverkusen brings in a new reinforcement. This is Nathan Tella, who should replace Moussa Diaby, who moved to Aston Villa a month ago. The 24-year-old winger has signed a long-term contract, with Bayer reportedly paying around £20 million.
Bayer Leverkusen brings in a new reinforcement. This is Nathan Tella, who should replace Moussa Diaby, who moved to Aston Villa a month ago. The 24-year-old winger has signed a long-term contract, with Bayer reportedly paying around £20 million.
When Leverkusen sold Diaby to Aston Villa last month, it was clear to everyone that an adequate replacement should arrive before the end of this transfer window. It should be noted Bayer collected €55 million for the 24-year-old Frenchman.
The German club finds a replacement in the player who helped Burnley to the Championship title and a return to the elite English competition last season.
However, after the end of his loan spell, Nathan Tella returned to Southampton, a club that was relegated from the Premier League. The transfer to Leverkusen is therefore a win-win for both the player and Bayer.
Tella, however, is very likely to be quite a bit of competition for Adam Hložek. The Czech international has started each of the first two games of the new Bundesliga season from the bench, once as a striker, and in the second game against Gladbach he replaced Jonas Hofmann in the 81st minute.
It should be noted, these are exactly the positions that Tella also holds. The Stevenage native scored 17 goals in 39 games last season, on top of adding five assists.
As renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano writes above, Leverkusen will send around £20 million to Southampton. Tella has signed a long-term contract that expires at the end of June 2028.
The contract also includes an exit clause. Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes commented on the new signing on the club’s official website.
“We have acquired a fast and goal-dangerous winger who already brings experience but still has the potential to develop. Nathan will add variation to our offensive attack and his speed and footballing qualities will be an asset to our team,” he said.
