Czech tennis had a successful weekend. Krejcikova celebrates her title in Tallinn, two more of our players in Parma

Last week, the WTA 250 women’s tennis tournaments were held on hard surfaces in Tallinn, Estonia and on clay in Parma, Italy. At the events, domestic tennis had its final representation. And the Czech players came out victorious in both duels for the title.

On Saturday afternoon, the doubles battles in the north of the Apennine Peninsula culminated. The final of the Parma Ladies Open was a clash between the Czech pair Anastasia Dețiucová, Miriam Kolodziejová and the Dutch-Slovenian pair Arantxa Rusová, Tamara Zidanseková.

It was only the second time that the Czechs have competed on the WTA circuit, but they already have a trophy in their collection. During Saturday’s day, they had to manage two three-set duels. After the semi-final win over Kaniova-Chodunova and Voráčová, they also managed the final drama.

They defeated their opponents in the final match after a big turnaround, after sets 1::6, 6::3 and 10::8 in a super tiebreak. The doubles in the Emilia-Romagna region was dominated by Egypt’s Majar Sharif, who beat Greece’s Maria Sakkari in the final 7: 5 and 6: 3.

The second singles title fought for during the weekend was won by the Czech representative. The Tallinn Open culminated on Sunday afternoon.

Top seed Anett Kontaveitova was aiming for a triumph on home soil, but Barbora Krejcikova thwarted her plans. The native of Ivančice won with a clear result, 6:2 and 6:3.

In the previous round, the 26-year-old tennis player went through Tomljanovic from Australia, Kostyuk from Ukraine, Haddad Maia from Brazil and Bencic from Switzerland. For last year’s Roland Garros champion, this is the first singles title this season.

Ahead of the AGEL Open, which starts on Monday, Krejcikova showed that she is in promising form. The prestigious WTA 500-level event in Ostrava will feature singles matches by Petra Kvitova, Karolina Pliskova, Karolina Muchova and Tereza Martincova.
