Czech Republic vs. Moldova: Analysis, preview

The eyes of the entire Czech football public will be on Olomouc on Monday night. It is there that the last match of the EURO qualification between the Czech Republic and Moldova will be played.

The calculations are simple – Jaroslav Šilhavy’s charges only need a draw, the Moldovans must win. The Czechs are the clear favourites, but the mood around the national team is definitely not positive.

A lot of fans have been calling for the end of coach Šilhavy for a long time, not helped by the scandals surrounding Antonín Barák or Tomáš Čvančara. Moreover, on Sunday, another uproar broke out when three players of the starting line-up (Vladimír Coufal, Jan Kuchta and Jakub Brabec) went to a party on Saturday and stayed there until the morning.

All three of them were dropped from the roster and the Czechs will have to do without them. It won’t be easy against Moldova. They weren’t counted on much at the start of the qualifiers, but the country of two and a half million showed they can play football too.

They started the qualification with a home draw against Faroe Islands, which can be considered as a loss today, but then they also robbed the Czechs of points. After the defeat in Albania, they managed to beat both Poland and Faroe Islands and entered the fight for promotion. Then in October they drew in Poland and a few days ago in Albania.

Czech Republic vs. Moldova odds, betting tips

The Moldovans have come to Olomouc for promotion. Although they are a big underdog, they definitely won’t leave their skin for free. This is despite the fact that they have never beaten the Czech national team in their history.

The aforementioned draw in March was the birth of the Czech Republic, and the other duels between the two countries can be traced back to 20 years ago. In 2003, in the qualification for EURO 2004, the Czechs defeated Moldova 5:0. In October 2002, the Czechs won the duel on the opponent’s field 2:0.

The odds of the Czech national team winning are so low that it is not even worth betting on, and it is very risky. With the current mood around the team, it is not at all certain that they will make it through the match with three points. Therefore, another option is tempting. The Czech Republic will be satisfied with a draw and will not be in any particular hurry to win. A bet on a draw looks very tempting at odds of 6.73.
