We are talking about Tomáš Petrášek. He was certainly delighted to be invited to the Czech national team for the upcoming barrage at the 2022 World Cup. He returns to the national team after about a year and a half. Coach Jaroslav Šilhavy is troubled by a really big defensive turnover and this certainly played an important role in the nomination of Petrášek. however, the 30-year-old stopper leads the Polish top competition with Raków!

In Jaroslav Šilhavy’s nomination for the key match(s) of 2022 we can find only 5 pure defenders. Moreover, many of them are quite unenamored with national football. The most experienced player is Jakub Brabec (24 national team starts), the second most experienced defender is Aleš Matějů (10 national team starts).

After that, it’s a misery for national team starts. David Zima (5 starts), Tomáš Petrášek (2 starts), Jaroslav Zelený (1 start), however, from the midfield it is surely the versatile Tomáš Holeš, who can also play at stopper. Slávista, trained by Trpišovský’s squad, has 16 national team starts and 2 goals to his credit.

However, Czech fans should not be worried about the stopper duo. If Jaroslav Šilhavý decides to let Tomas Petrášek on the pitch, he is after all an experienced guy who also leads Raków Częstochowa in the Polish Ekstraklasa.

The star Legia Warsaw, who knocked out Slavia Prague in the preliminary round of the EL 2021/2022, are a whopping 20 points behind Raków after 25 rounds played.

Where the Czech Republic, on the other hand, may feel the lack of quality is at the back. The absence of Vladimir Coufal (recovering from groin surgery) and Pavel Kadeřábek (end of his national team career) may be noticeable.

Aleš Matějů, Lukáš Masopust, Jaroslav Zelený and, theoretically, Michal Sadílek can start on the back line. Coach Šilhavy certainly has options, but it’s definitely not the Premier League quality that Vladimír Coufal has.

Let’s hope that the Czech national team can get through the tough opponent from the north of Europe. If they get past the Swedes, Tomas Petrasek could look forward to a spicy clash with Poland.
