The 2021 calendar year is rapidly coming to an end. The FIFA national team ranking was updated for the last time this year and from the Czech national team’s point of view it does not look good, as our footballers dropped one position.
Since 2018, the best football team is the one from Belgium, which has held the top spot in this ranking for almost 3 years. The second place is held by Brazil and the third place belongs to France. The fourth place is held by England and the fifth spot goes to Argentina.
The first change in the updated ranking is the eleventh position. The US national team has moved up to this position. The German national football team has left the eleventh place and dropped to twelfth.
The Czech national football team has held on to the 31st position since June, when it managed to reach the quarter-finals at the European Championships. This was the best placing since 2016.
However, in December our national team lost the 31st position and dropped to the 32nd position, despite not playing a single match in December. The reason for this is the Arab Cup. Algeria won this cup and got ahead of the Czechs.
The next update of the FIFA rankings will take place around mid-February. Our national team will not play its first match of the next calendar year until the end of March. It will be a match against Sweden, in which the Czech national team will fight for qualification to the World Cup.
